The Nose Knows

At Los Altos PD, balance isn’t just a goal, it’s part of who we are. Our K9 teams say it all. One dog is trained to apprehend suspects, and keep our streets safe. The other is trained to comfort, connect, and care for the emotional wellness of our staff and community. Together, they’re a symbol of what we stand for: Strength with compassion, readiness with reflection, and purpose with heart. This is the kind of balance we strive for every day, not just in the work we do, but in the lives we lead.

Things To Do

Within the six-block downtown triangle you will discover more than 150 shops offering just about everything from A to Z. Grab a special gift, make a deposit, have your clothes cleaned and tailored, and then grab food to go from the area’s most unique array of restaurants.

Real People. Real Connections

From the family run fruit stand to high-fives at the elementary school, our officers are part of the daily rhythm of the city. Whether it’s the mayor sharing his support of the Department or a couple officers checking in at Chef Chu’s, this is about real relationships with real people. Because here, connection builds trust, and trust keeps our community strong.

Message From The Chief

As someone who grew up in Los Altos, it’s an honor to serve as Chief of Police in my hometown. With over 21 years in law enforcement, my vision is simple, lead with heart by caring for our team and protecting our community. That means supporting our employees with wellness, training, and the tools to succeed, and delivering professional, compassionate service to everyone we meet. If you value integrity, seek to create lasting impact, and want to join a department that puts people first, we’d be proud to have you on our team.

– Chief Saskia Lagergren
